JANUARY 8, 2018
THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE VILLAGE OF LOREAUVILLE, LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT THEIR REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MONDAY, JANUARY 8, 2018.
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Village of Loreauville, Louisiana, met in regular session on Monday, January 8, 2018, beginning at 6:30 P.M. at the Loreauville Town Hall.
There were present: Brad Clifton, Mayor
Eric Borne, Alderman
Joseph J. DeCourt, Alderman
Sandy Sonnier, Alderman
Also present: Phyllis B. Savoy, Clerk
Mr. Gene Jefferies, Port of Iberia
A quorum being present, Mayor Clifton called the meeting to order.
The Prayer was led by Mr. Sonnier.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Borne.
It was moved by Mr. Borne, seconded by Mr. Sonnier, and carried to dispense with the reading of the December 11, 2017 regular minutes and to adopt them as written.
There were no comments during the public comment period.
Due to Ms. Dauphine not being able to attend the meeting, her request was not addressed. It was determined should be able to attend the February meeting, a decision would be made at that time.
There were no resolutions for adoption and no new business.
Due to Mr. Wattigny not being able to attend the meeting, a decision on Babineaux's Plumbing and the letter from attorney Ryan Baudry was not made. Mayor Clifton did ask Ms. Duhon to address the board regarding her tenant's unpaid sewer utility bill. Mayor Clifton went over the problems from the flood of 2016 in which utility bills could not be disconnected due to Iberia Parish having been declared an emergency parish. Much discussion was held on Ms. Duhon's tenant not paying. It was determined this would be addressed at the February meeting once Mr. Wattigny has reviewed all documents.
It was moved by Mr. Sonnier, seconded by Mr. DeCourt, and carried to expand the agenda to discuss and possibly approve payment of an invoice from Teche Armature.
After discussion, it was moved by Mr. Borne, seconded by Mr. Sonnier and carried to approve paying Teche Armature the amount of $565 for a new motor for the WWTP.
The Mayor's report consisted of the water problem during freezing temperatures, the old Christmas decorations and the purchase of a new Christmas tree which will be placed outdoors at the town hall next holiday season.
The clerk presented her monthly reports. No action taken.
Mr. Jefferies reported good things are happening at the Port including one company looking at a lease term of 30 years and another company using 15 acres and which will employ about 70 people.
The Mayor announced the next regular meeting will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 6:30 PM.
It was moved by Mr. Borne, seconded by Mr. DeCourt and carried to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 6:55 P.M.
