FEBRUARY 21, 2017
THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE VILLAGE OF LOREAUVILLE, LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT THEIR SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2017.
The Mayor and board of Aldermen of the Village of Loreauville met in special session on the above date at 6:30 P.M. for the purposes of discussing the discontinuation of the curbside debris removal program and the discussion of entering into an agreement with the Loreauville Volunteer Fire Department for controlled burns.
There were present: Brad Clifton, Mayor
Eric Borne, Alderman
Joseph J. DeCourt, Alderman
Sandy Sonnier, Alderman
Also present were: Phyllis B. Savoy, Clerk
A quorum being present, the special meeting was called to order by Mayor Brad Clifton.
The prayer was led by Mr. Sonnier.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Borne.
Mayor Clifton led a discussion on amending or changing the curbside debris removal process due to a phone update from Parish President, Larry Richard. Mr. Richard said the parish can no longer afford to pick up the tab for the village and the cost to continue in the parish program would be at a fee of $10,000 annually or $833 monthly.
The mayor and board discussed the different options to remove debris, including the prices received from Gordon's Landfill, Waste Management of Acadiana and I Dump for either curbside or by use of a debris removal container. Progressive Waste will have someone contact the village on February 22. The discussion included the various ways to fund debris removal with one option being changing the recycling fee to debris removal after discontinuing the recycling program.
The mayor has contacted the Iberia Parish Sheriff and is waiting to hear from him if the use of inmate labor once a month would be allowed to move the debris items to a construction container.
Discussion was held on what to do about tree removal so the mayor reported that he had a discussion with Kevin Gondron, LVFD Fire Chief to have an agreement with LVFD for controlled burns of yard waste as a solution to tree debris. Chief Gondron feels this would help with training the new volunteers.
It was determined to place on the March agenda an item to discuss getting a dumpster with the fee to be paid by transferring the recycling fee over to debris removal.
It was moved unanimously to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 P.M.
